Wilson Franklin Shifflett Obituary (1939 - 2015)

Wilson Franklin Shifflett Clover Hill Wilson Franklin Shifflett, 76, a resident of Clover Hill, passed away on Friday December 4, 2015 at the Sentara RMH Medical Center. Mr. Shifflett was born on March 28, 1939 in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Robert "R.G." and Wilda (Guyer) Shifflett. He farmed for many years with his brother at Shifflett Livestock, and also worked for Evers Concrete, Howdyshell Excavating, Georges Hatchery, and Shenandoah Valley Livestock Sales. Wilson had quite a zest for life, enjoying hunting with his son and grandsons, spending time with his grandchildren and watching their activities, sitting on the front patio with his wife, and visiting with friends and relatives that stopped by. He was also an avid Clover Hill Bucks fan, rarely missing a game, and had a passion for working on his 1946 Ford Pickup truck that has been passed down through three generations. Wilson was always there to lend a hand to friends and strangers alike. His kind, supportive, unselfish attitude was felt by many over the years along with his humorist side. He loved to pick, joke, and tease all the younger family members and kids in the neighborhood. If you lived in Clover Hill and knew Wilson, you had a nickname. He became a member of the Clover Hill United Methodist Church on April 16, 1950, and was also a member of the Clover Hill Ruritans. Mr. Shifflett served in the United States Army from 1962 until 1964. On June 9, 1962, he was united in marriage with the former Linda Lea Wichael who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shifflett is survived by a son, Jay Shifflett and wife Linda of Dayton; grandchildren, Coale and Torie Shifflett, Drew Easter and wife Lacey, Kali Easter; a brother Wayne Shifflett and companion Jane Mongold; sisters, Nancy Custer and Francis Morris; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and a special aunt Marie Butner. He was also preceded in death by two brothers in law, Bob Custer and Glenn Morris. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday December 8, 2015 at 3 PM at Clover Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Barnett officiating. Burial with military honors by the Dayton American Legion Post #27 will follow at the Clover Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday December 7, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM at the McMullen Funeral Home.
