Vada Elizabeth Simmons Obituary (1928

Vada Elizabeth (Moyers) Simmons, 90, of Linville, passed away on Thursday January 25, 2018 at the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Simmons was born on January 22, 1928 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Raleigh and Ivy Mae (Dingledine) Moyers. She was a home maker. Vada was a longtime member of Donovan United Methodist Church in Singers Glen. She directed the children's choir, sang in the choir, served a chorister, taught Sunday school and could always be seen at church activities and events. Mrs. Simmons also enjoyed spending time outdoors. On June 22, 1948 she married Garnett Eugene Simmons who preceded her in death on April 6, 1978. Vada is survived by her daughters, Betty Demastus and husband Ken of Singers Glen, Lori Simmons of Linville, Janice Simmons of Linville; a brother, Leonard Moyers and wife Jane of Harrisonburg; a sister, Nina Mae Sager and husband Paul of Waynesboro; a grandson, Tim Demastus of Singers Glen; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Vada was preceded in death by five siblings. Vada's three daughters would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to her siblings, Leonard and his wife Jane and Nina and her husband Paul for all the special care of love they gave Vada. The funeral service will be held on Monday January 29, 2018 at 11 AM at the Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra Cline officiating. Burial will follow at the Singers Glen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 PM at the McMullen Funeral Home.
