Stoney Lee Shifflett, 49, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and two beloved friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
Mr. Shifflett was born on April 5, 1974 and was a son of the late James Sr. and Mary Mick Shifflett. He had a strong Christian faith and loved to tell anyone who would listen about the Lord and his political views.
He attended Turner Ashby High School where he met many lifelong friends. He worked at Walmart for many years where he met some of his best friends whom he cared for deeply. He was a DJ and loved music of all kinds. He and his lifelong friend, Tim Demastus shared this passion and did many gigs together with his brother-in-law, Tim Plecker in tow to help. He was very charismatic and never met a stranger. He was a softball coach for many years and that brought him so much joy. He was very proud to be spades partners with his sister-in-law, Amy. They battled his brothers James and Robert in some epic duels.
Stoney leaves behind his brothers, James (Amy) Shifflett, Robert Shifflett, William Shifflett, who he proudly lived with; sister, Amanda (Tim) Plecker; nieces, Samantha, Ashley, Brianna, Autumn, Katie, Amber, Courtney, Ella; nephews, Dakota, Aden, Joshua, Rylee; five great nieces; one great nephew; cousin and aunt, Jennifer and Mary Mick (who opened their home up to him after surgery to recover, and was greatly appreciated); brothers from other mothers, Adam Davis, Seth Jacob, Nick Guyer (who came to help him every time he called), Dave Brannon, Sam Smith (who spent hours on the phone talking to him), Shawn Sweeny, Sean Nash, Chad Pettit (who prayed with him often), Elizabeth Propst (for always helping whenever he asked), Ashley Shifflett (for answering his 2 a.m. call to make a sandwich and delivering it to him). He really appreciated Tim and Amanda Plecker for staying with him in the hospital, so he was never alone. There are so many more he would thank because everyone was so important to him. He loved his group chat with his besties so they could all stay in touch.
To carry him to his final resting place beside his mother will be some of his special friends, Eric Burch, Quentin Fitzwater, Sam Smith, Ronnie Hoover, Nick Guyer and Greg Shull whom where all a huge part of his life.
In his final moments here on Earth, he spoke of how blessed he was with his family and friends, however, they were the ones blessed by him.
He didn't have as many years on Earth as he would have liked, but what he did have he made count with many laughs and lasting memories.
Pastor Karl Slye will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Fellowship Community Cemetery.
