Lorene Troyer Martin Obituary (1922 - 2011)

Lorene Troyer Martin, 88 Lorene Troyer Martin, a resident of Locust Grove, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011. Mrs. Martin was born on July 27, 1922 in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Herbert Noah and Sadie Mast Troyer. Mrs. Martin spent most of her childhood in Ohio. She attended Eastern Mennonite School for high school and nursing school in Cleveland OH. She met her husband J. Weldon Martin while attending EMS. They married on June 7, 1947. They then pastured Hispanic churches in Mathis and Corpus Christi, Texas, Chicago Illinois, Defiance Ohio, Goshen Indiana, and Harrisonburg. In those churches Lorene was not only the minister?s wife who joined in the visitation but was also organist, Sunday school superindent, youth group leader, taught English as a 2nd language and child care classes and translated at doctor visits, and during deliveries. Her and her husband ?retired? to Harrisonburg in 1985, where they planted another Hispanic church with Grace Covenant Church and spent many hours helping the Hispanic members. Following Her husband?s death in 1998, she moved to Heritage Haven where she continued to translate for several more years. With declining health, she moved to the home of her daughter, Carol in 2007. Surviving are six children, Dennis Eugene Martin and wife Harriet of Goshen Indiana, Jay Weldon Martin and wife Penni of Lima, Ohio, Carol Yvonne Martin Grimesey and husband Bob of Locust Grove, Susan Lorene Martin Kaylor and husband Rob of Kumamoto Ken, Japan, Rachel Elaine Martin Swartz and husband Timothy of Spring City, Pennsylvania, John Paul Martin and wife Tonya of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death three sisters, and three brothers, Marie Troyer, Galen Troyer, Olus Troyer Kurtz, Virginia Burkholder, John Troyer and James Troyer. Rev. Sam Espinoza and Richard Blackwell will conduct a graveside service at Lindale Mennonite Cemetery Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a. m at the Grace Covenant Church.
