Roxie M. Lee Obituary (1919 - 2010)

Roxie M. Lee, 91 Harrisonburg Roxie Mae Armentrout Lee, 91, died December 23, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Lee was born on May 7, 1919 in the Fridleys Gap area of Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Herman Oscar and Emsie Layman Armentrout. She graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1938, and worked at W.T. Grant Company and Dairymen Specialty Inc. She was an organizer of the Meals On Wheels Program which began in 1973 and continued until 1999. She received the Book of Golden Deeds award in 1996 from the Harrisonburg Exchange Club for 26 years of work on this program. She was a charter member of the Carl D. Lee Post 9872 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a longtime active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Her former husband Jesse R. Lee Jr. preceded her in death July 13, 2000. Surviving are two children, Melvin Lee and wife Karen, Bridgewater; a daughter, Harriet Welch, Harrisonburg. Her son-in-law Newell Welch preceded her in death. Reverend Don Shull will conduct a memorial service Monday morning, December 27, 2010 at 11a.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 10a.m. at Woodbine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.
