Rick Leroy Howdyshell

Rick Leroy Howdyshell, 63, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Howdyshell was born on February 2, 1953 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Whitney Lee and Jearlene Virginia (Hoover) Howdyshell. Rick worked at Victor Tube and then Monk Miller Garage before he had a stroke on April 27, 1998. He enjoyed collecting guns and working on cars. Mr. Howdyshell loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and two dogs Cody and Sassy. He loved to be outdoors and watching birds and other animals.
On August 28, 1974, he married the former Carolyn Sue Shoemaker, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Howdyshell is survived by a son, Ricky Howdyshell II of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Chrisy Howdyshell of Broadway; a brother, Lester Howdyshell and wife Norene of Mount Clinton; a sister, JoAnn Legg of Harrisonburg; one brother-in-law, John Harold of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren, Austin, Colton, Hunter, Destiny, Desiree, Tristan and one expected great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Charles (Monk) and Josephine Miller. Mr. Howdyshell was preceded in death two sisters, Janet Harold and June Harper, and his beloved dog Cody.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 2 PM at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Burns officiating.
The family will receive friends on Friday September 16, 2016 from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
