Raymond H. Harper Obituary (1934 - 2014)

Raymond H. Harper, 80 Raymond Harold Harper, 80, a resident of the Mount Clinton community, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at his home. Mr. Harper was born on June 16, 1934 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Delmar and Ethel Simmons Harper. He retired after 35 years of service at Cargill and was a lifelong local farmer who was always on the go, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He graduated from Mt. Clinton High School and maintained a close relationship with his fellow classmates up until his death. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren. On May 24, 1956, he married Mildred S. Harper who preceded him in death on August 24, 2012. Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Fulk and husband Bradley of Fulks Run; Brenda Beierle and husband Tom of Harrisonburg; a sister, Mary Wheelbarger of Hinton; a brother, Edsel Harper and wife Christine of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Zachary Fulk of Linville; Derek Fulk of Harrisonburg; Nicolas Fulk of Harrisonburg; Amanda Beierle of Newport News; Tim Beierle of Harrisonburg. In addition to his wife, Mr. Harper was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Harper, Carroll Harper and a sister, Lois Sherfey. Pastor Jon Prater, Gerald Harper and Jerry Shiflet will conduct a memorial service on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Greenmount Church of the Brethren. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening at McMullen Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clover Hill Rescue/Fire Department, 2100 Clover Hill Road, Dayton, Virginia 22821.
