Ola Virginia Ritchie Obituary (1921 - 2011)

Ola V. Ritchie, 90 Ola Virginia Ritchie, 90, a resident of Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Mrs. Ritchie was born on February 10, 1921 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Wade H. and Grace Berry Wood. She was a 1938 graduate of Linville Edom High School. She was employed by McCroy?s Five and Ten from 1938-1941 and People?s Drug for several years. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland with her husband in 1943, she worked for Reed?s Drug and Chemical Store for twenty six years. She returned to Bridgewater with her husband in 1988. In her spare time, she greatly enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, and visiting the Charles Town Races and Slots. Mrs. Ritchie was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ. On February 10, 1946 she married Lynwood Ritchie who passed away on February 5, 2002. Surviving are brothers and sisters in law, Maurice and Frances Ritchie, Dorothy and Wallace Shipp, Louise and Emanuel Bennett, JoAnn Higgs, and Louise Ritchie; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Willard and Betty Driver who cared for her for many years and her caretaker, Brenda Hess. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Pastor Lloyd Sprinkle will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
