Nelson L. Layman Obituary (1950 - 2012)

Nelson L. Layman, 61 Dayton Nelson Leon Layman, 61, a resident of Dayton died February 23, 2012 in Danville, Virginia. Mr. Layman was born on March 3, 1950, in Rockingham County and was the son of Lorene Keller Layman of Dayton and the late Ralph ?Skip? Layman. He was a truck driver for 35 years and had over 5 million miles of safe driving. Mr. Layman enjoyed hunting arrowheads, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed playing piano gospel music. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their vacation home on Hatteras Island. He also loved and cared for his dogs. He was an active member of the Montezuma Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon and usher. On May 26, 1984, he married Sharon Schork Layman who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Cheri L. Beatty, Forked River, New Jersey; and Stacey Beatty Watson, Buffalo, New York; one brother, Eldon Layman, Dayton; and one grandson, Liam Joseph Beatty. Rev. David R. Miller, Rev. Phil Kanagy and Janet Whetzel, Minister of Visitation, will conduct a memorial service Monday morning, February 27, 2012, at 11a.m. at Montezuma Church of the Brethren. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4p.m. until 6p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.
