Melissa Bowman

Melissa Ann Bowman, 37, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at her home.

Melissa was born on December 13, 1988, in Rockingham, VA, to Dale “Buckwheat” William Bowman and the late Theresea Faye Cave Bowman. After graduating from Massanutten Technical Center and Lord Fairfax Community College, Melissa found her passion as an LPN. She especially loved the connections she made through patient assistance.

Outside of her work, Melissa could often be found quilting, sewing, embroidering, and shopping for related materials. She loved to travel, especially on a cruise, or going to a Banana Ball game. In 2018, alongside Ethan and the Bowman family, Melissa opened and operated “Little Hill Farms.” She loved her sugar gliders, pet crested gecko, and her loyal dog Zeus, who preceded her in death. In her free time, Melissa enjoyed volunteering with Bridgewater Challenger Baseball, the Rockingham County Fair, and the Singers Glen Lawn Party. She attended Gospel Hill Mennonite Church.

In addition to her dad, Melissa is survived by her fiancé, Ethan Landon Showalter; her daughter, McKenzie Paula Bowman; siblings, Sarah Dean, William Bowman; her “GiGi,” Bonnie Bowman; and numerous aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her mother, Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul Bowman, Ruie and Frank Cave; and her step grandfather, Lindy Stover.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Greenmount Covenant Brethren Church with Pastor Dan Horning officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the funeral home. The family will be intermittently present throughout the day.
