Susan Leatherman Brunk Obituary (1936 - 2015)

Susan L. Brunk, 79 Kathryn Susan Leatherman Brunk, 79, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Oak Lea Nursing Home. Mrs. Brunk was born on August 15, 1936 near Collegeville, Pennsylvania to Jacob L. and Mary Cox Jones Leatherman. She was named after her two aunts, Kathryn and Sue. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School where she was a friend of David's sister, Frances, who urged David to get to know Sue. She completed nurses training at Temple University's School of Nursing in 1957 and married David James Brunk in 1959. She was a highly regarded nurse, excellent cook, skilled seamstress and a friend to all she met. Her husband described it as E.L.M.S. (everybody likes my Sue). In her spare time, she made clothing for herself, her children, and others in need. She was a member of Spring Mount Mennonite Church in Pennsylvania. Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Grace Mattson and husband Glenn of Boyertown, Pennsylvania; Kenneth Brunk and wife Gayl of Singers Glen; Carol Brunk of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Karl Leatherman and wife Katie of Wilmington, Delaware; Glenn Leatherman and wife Kathryn of Telford, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Trisha Mattson; Jessica Hissim; Glenn Mattson, Jr.; Brianna Brunk; Sonya Brunk; and two great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John Leatherman and wife Grace; Mary Deimler and husband Irvin and Richard Leatherman. Pastors Michael King and Steve Landis and Duane Yoder will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Lindale Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. At the request of the family, the body was cremated.
