Joann Michael Knicely Obituary (1935 - 2016)

JoAnn Michael Carper Knicely Good, 80, passed away February 16, 2016 at Virginia Commonwealth University Heath Systems. She had a winning way about her of making everybody feel special; this is the reason so many people called her Granny. JoAnn was born on March 9, 1935 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Howard Leon and Anna Virginia Billheimer Michael. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a member of the Bank Mennonite Church and had volunteered for hospice and Gift and Thrift for many years. She was married January 17, 1954 to Charles Edward Carper, Jr. who preceded her in death March 25, 1987; her second marriage on June 11, 1993 was to Byard Ervin Knicely who preceded her in death March 28, 2003. She married Howard Samuel Good on August 7, 2010 who survives. Also surviving are eight children, Etta Good, Keezletown; Diane (Jerry) Horst, Harrisonburg; Dewitt (Sharon) Carper, Keezletown; Charles (Chuck) Carper III, Keezletown; Sue (Jerry) Shenk, Linville; Anna (Franklin) Good, Dayton; Jacob (Bobbi Jo) Carper; Keezletown; Sarah (Michael) Frum, Keezletown Step children, Ramona (James) Hartman; Dawn (Robert) Mallow, Myrna (Phillip) Wenger, Marion (Lois Ann) Knicely, Keith Knicely, Fred (Sharon) Knicely, Blaine (Beth) Knicely and Willard (Sonia) Knicely, Catherine (J.P) Campbell, Stanley (Thelma) Good, Carolyn (Cliff) Stoltzfus, Doris (Dale) Heatwole, Grace (Sanford) Hege and Beverly (Bruce) King. Her brothers and sisters, Elmer Michael, Mary Jean Nankivell, Janet (Dave) Clements; all of Keezletown, Ellis Michael, Tampa FL; eighteen grandchildren, Ryon Good, Renee Whitmore, Chris Horst, Brian Horst, Melissa Dinkle, Brandon Carper, Jason Shenk, Jonathan Shenk, Heidi Yoder, Elizabeth Heatwole, Levi Good, Josh Carper, Selena Carper, Adria Carper, Nora Carper, Daniel Frum, Nicole Frum and Hannah Frum, 55 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 48 step great grandchildren; a special friend, Irene (John) Heatwole, Dayton. She was preceded in death by two step sons, Howard Knicely and Reuben Good, and a step grandson, Randall Knicely. Ministers of the Church will conduct a funeral service Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1p.m. at the Bank Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 19, 2016 from 2p.m. until 4p.m. and 6p.m. until 8p.m. at the Pike Mennonite Church.
