Jimmie Lee Ritchie Sr. Obituary (1939

Jimmie Ritchie, Sr., 84, a resident of Broadway, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home surrounded by his close family. Mr. Ritchie was born on April 14, 1939 in Broadway, Virginia and was a son of the late George Washington and Annabelle Ziegler Ritchie. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Randolph from 1957 until 1960. After his military service, he worked as a truck driver for Valley Proteins and was self-employed cattle artificial inseminator. He played in the Valley League Baseball program for Linville for many years. He was a member of the Chimney Rock VFW Post 9660 and Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. On December 25, 1961, he married Betty Lou Minnick Ritchie, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2022. Mr. Ritchie is survived by his children, Robert Eugene Ritchie and wife Frances of Broadway, Patty Lou Ritchie Hupp of Broadway, Jimmie Lee Ritchie Jr. and wife Jeanne of Rockingham, Cindy Ann Ritchie of Verona, Lora Conrad of Broadway; siblings, Sam Ritchie of Singers Glen, Helen Shifflett of Harrisonburg, Blanche Collins and husband Randall of Timberville, Barbara Ritchie of Singers Glen; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ritchie was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Barb, and a brother, Robert Franklin Ritchie. Pastor Linda Waggy will conduct a funeral service on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Linville Creek Church of the Brethren with military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post 27. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Church of the Brethren, 7876 Simmers Valley Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
