Holmes Everett "Tex" Carroll Obituary (1937 - 2017)

Holmes E. "Tex" Carroll, 79, of Harrisonburg passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Sentara RMH Medical Center following a period of declining health, surrounded by his son and close family friends. Mr. Carroll was born on September 26, 1937 in Harrisonburg, VA and was the son of the late Frank and Ruth Belle Elizabeth (Falls) Carroll. He was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Elizabeth "Katherine" Carroll. He retired from Don Largent Roofing in June 2011 and had previously worked for the Harrisonburg Drive-In Theater for many years. Tex was a passionate and enthusiastic bowler at various establishments throughout the state, but more predominantly at Valley Lanes Bowling in Harrisonburg, VA where he made quite a name for himself. He was an outstanding individual bowler and teammate with scores of trophies earned for his and team accomplishments. In his more formidable years he was very athletic and enjoyed playing softball. He was unassuming, peaceful and a private individual of integrity. He was jovial, spirited, yet always respectful to all he encountered and earned the respect of others through his actions. Tex is survived by his son, Jeffrey Wayne Carroll and granddaughter, Josslyn Willow Grace Carroll both residing in Columbus, OH; former wives, Ruth Ann (Armentrout) Hensley in Harrisonburg, VA and Daisey Mae (McDaniel) Steward in Chance, Maryland; and his special family of friends, the staff of Don Largent Roofing in Harrisonburg, VA. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM on Friday June 2, 2017 at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg with Reverend Karl Slye officiating. The family will receive friends for a "Celebration of Life" from 4 until 6 PM following the Memorial Service, at Valley Lanes Bowling Alley in Harrisonburg, which was Tex's home away from home.
