Gordon S. Morris Obituary (1925 - 2013)

Gordon Sherwood Morris, 88, died December 9, 2013 at the Bridgewater Home where he was a resident. Mr. Morris was born on April 7, 1925 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Shelton and Dora Wheelbarger Morris. He drove a school bus for Rockingham County and worked at Pleasant Valley Elementary for 34 years. He was a farmer and a member of the Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church. Mr. Morris loved trains and after his retirement, he would spend several weeks in the spring working of the Cass Scenic Railroad trains to prepare them for the summer tours. He also built model wagons and a steam engine. On March 14, 1964 he married the former Emma Fauls who preceded him in death April 9, 1996. Surviving are a step daughter, Phyllis Foltz and husband John, Timberville; two sisters-in-law, Betty Morris and Helen Morris, Harrisonburg; step grandchildren, Tammy Foltz, Laura Branner, Johnny Foltz II, Christine Foltz, and Angela Frazier and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Julian, Sam and R.J. (Dick) Morris, Catherine Diehl and Caroline Martin. Rev. George W. Evans will conduct a funeral service at Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church, Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10a.m. until 11am. at the church. Friends may also call at the McMullen Funeral Home at any time.
