Gladys "Mae" Smith Bennett Obituary (1925

Gladys "Mae" Smith Bennett, 98, a longtime resident of Linville, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing. Mae, as she was known to all, was born on May 7, 1925 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Lurty and Ethel Derrow Smith. She had a strong faith and devoutly attended church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman "Bud" Bennett. Surviving is a son, Vernon Smith; great-grandchildren, Randy Gatewood, Brandon Shifflett, Alicia Kite, Jeremy Kite, Justin Kite; and numerous great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Scott Bennett; stepsons, Larry, Jerry, and Terry Bennett; siblings, Francis Comer, Christine Derrow, Pauline Smith, Nancy Hinkle, Howard Smith, David Smith; and granddaughter, Barbara Kite. Pastor Guy Hudson will conduct a graveside service on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Linville Cemetery. Due to her sons health concerns, there will be no night of family visitation. Those wishing to view and sign the register book may do so from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
