Frances Isabel Willis Freeman May Obituary (1925 - 2011)

Frances Isabel Willis Freeman May, 85, of Singers Glen journeyed to her eternal home in heaven on January 16, 2011. She was born in Dobson, NC on July 15, 1925 to Robert Alexander and Bessie Willis Freeman. Frances graduated from Dobson High School and attended Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC, Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and Madison College in Harrisonburg. Frances was a teacher at Ottobine, Singers Glen, and Mt. Clinton Elementary schools. She was an active member of the Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church in Singers Glen, where she served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent and children?s sermon presenter. She loved music. She was a piano major in college and was an enthusiastic choir member. She was active in the United Methodist Women?s group. Frances was the wife of the late Walker H. May, Jr., who was a farmer, gospel singer and radio show host for ?Sunday Morning Gospel Time? at WHBG for 30 years. She was a devoted wife and mother who was known for her creativity and sense of humor. She is survived by her children, Mary May Angelil and husband, Edmond, of Port St. Lucie, FL; Anita May Krull and husband, Paul, of Dayton, OH; and Philip Freeman May and wife, Maribeth, of Waxahachie, TX. Her grandchildren are Ellen Krull, April Krull and Levi Walker May. Her great-grandson is Duane Krull. The family will receive friends at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 21st. Funeral services will be held at the Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church in Singers Glen at 2 p.m. on Saturday, 22nd of January, followed by a graveside service at the Singers Glen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church, 9788 Singers Glen Rd, Singers Glen, VA 22850.
