Dabney Overton Jr. Obituary (1937 - 2019)

Dabney Overton, Jr, Esq., 82, of Linville, passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2019 at his residence. Dabney was born on March 22, 1937 in Newport News and was a son of the late Henrietta Mallory and Dabney Overton, Sr. Dabney entered the University of Virginia at the age of 16 and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law at the age of 19. He served as the President of the School of Law. Mr. Overton continued in private practice until the age of 80. At the time of his retirement, he was one of the three oldest practicing attorneys in the Commonwealth. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren. Mr. Overton was also very active in the local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous. Dabney is survived by his wife, Donna Miller Overton; daughters, Mallory Overton McKendry of Staunton, Hannah Overton Tiffany of Warsaw, VA; a sister, Annie Haile of Portland, OR; granddaughters, Emma Taylor, Lizzie Schmidt and Maybelle Duguet. He was preceded in death by his son Dabney Overton, III. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 10, 2019 at 2 PM at the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends there following the service.
