Linville, Virginia

Charlotte Ann Ours Swope, 81, a resident of Linville, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.

Mrs. Swope was born on April 20, 1945 in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Reba Batterman Ours.

On March 14, 1964, she married Edwin Jacob Swope who survives.

Charlotte worked alongside her husband in both their construction and apartment rental businesses. She was an avid seamstress and talented quilter who made various quilts, including the hand quilting of the 50th anniversary quilt for the Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale and quilts for each of her grandchildren and great-grandson. She shared her talents by volunteering at Gift and Thrift and the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center. Charlotte showed her love for others through cooking and baking, making family meals and taking food to friends and neighbors who were sick. She was well-known for her sugar cookies that were always present at holidays and special events. Before getting sick, Charlotte and Ed enjoyed traveling and were proud to say they had visited all 50 states. She was a long-time member of Weavers Mennonite Church and currently attended Lindale Mennonite Church.

Also surviving are her daughters, Tina Kiracofe (Karl) of Churchville, Renee Hertzler (Andre) of Dayton and Janelle Blankenship (Wes) of Glen Allen. Surviving siblings are Phyllis Knicely (Freddie) and Allen Ours (Betty), all of Rockingham. She is survived by her seven grandchildren and one great-grandson: Jessica Olsen (Kevan), Zachary Hiter (Sydney), Casey Hertzler, Noah Hertzler, Tucker Kiracofe, Kaley Kiracofe, Claire Blankenship, and great-grandson Wells Olsen.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 2:00 PM at Weavers Mennonite Church Cemetery with Pastor Reuben Horst officiating.
