Captain James Joseph "J.J." McCabe USMC, Ret., 86 Captain James Joseph "J.J." McCabe USMC, Ret., 86, a resident of Singers Glen, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Oak Lea Nursing Home. Mr. McCabe was born on July 16, 1930 in New York, New York and was the son of the late Peter and Cecilia Traynor McCabe. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korea and Vietnam Wars and retired after 23 years of service. He enjoyed reading and spending time doing yard work. He had a passion for history. He was married to Marilyn Mathias McCabe for over 50 years who survives. Also surviving are two children, James Michael "Mike" McCabe of Winchester, Kimberly D. McCabe of Springfield, Virginia; siblings, Peter M. McCabe and wife Pat of Long Island, Patricia McCabe Commender and husband Eddie of Houston; sister-in-law, Georgeanne McCabe of Long Island; three grandchildren, James Michael "Mikie" McCabe, Megan McCabe, Joseph "Mac" Mathias McCabe; great grandchild, Macon James McCabe; his best friend and constant companion, his dog, Chloe and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John F. McCabe. Reverend Ed Wilkins will conduct a funeral on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Singers Glen Cemetery with Military Rites.
