Bruce Allensworth Nelson, 89

Bruce Allensworth Nelson, 89, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on February 26, 2017.
Mr. Nelson was born on February 14, 1928 in Riverton, West Virginia and was the son of the late Solon and Rella Mae Kile Nelson. He was employed by North and South. Known as the "Mad Pen Man", he loved to write poetry and to mail cards to all of his friends and family for special occasions. He was a member of the Harrisonburg First Assembly of God.
On September 17, 1947, he married the former Pauline Rice who preceded him in death on December 20, 2001.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Nelson, Kathy Porter, all of Harrisonburg; a brother, Samual Nelson, University State, Washington; grandchildren, Tinaka Morrison of Crozet, C.J. Wilt of Woodstock, Ashley Pacheco of Grottoes, Bobby Newland of Bridgewater, Billy Nelson, Jr. of Harrisonburg and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne "Billy" Nelson, Bruce Nelson, Jr. and nine brothers.
Pastor Jeff Ferguson will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Harrisonburg First Assembly of God. Burial will be held privately at Mt. Clinton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service. Friends are also welcome to view and sign the register book on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McMullen Funeral Home 5784 Greenmount Road, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22802 to assist with burial expenses.
